Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis

Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis (1792–1843) was a French mathematician and engineer who analyzed motion in rotating systems, leading to the concepts now called the Coriolis effect and Coriolis force.

Coriolis force: An apparent force in a rotating reference frame that deflects moving objects relative to that frame. Coriolis’s analysis of motion in rotating systems gave rise to this named force.
Fictitious force: An apparent force introduced when motion is described in an accelerating reference frame. The Coriolis force belongs to this broader class of frame-dependent forces.
École Polytechnique: A French engineering and scientific institution founded in 1794. Coriolis studied and later taught at this institution during his scientific career.
