Gazprom

Gazprom is a Russian energy corporation headquartered in Saint Petersburg and one of the world’s largest natural-gas producers. It operates across gas production, transportation, processing, and sales.

Nord Stream: A subsea natural-gas pipeline system linking Russia and Germany beneath the Baltic Sea. Gazprom supplied the Russian gas carried by this major export route.
Unified Gas Supply System of Russia: Russia’s interconnected network of gas pipelines, storage facilities, and dispatch infrastructure. Gazprom manages the central network that moves much of Russia’s pipeline gas.
Soviet Ministry of Gas Industry: The Soviet government ministry responsible for developing and managing the country’s natural-gas industry. Gazprom’s organizational roots lie in this ministry’s production and pipeline system.
Energy security: The reliable availability of energy at affordable prices and with manageable risks. Dependence on Gazprom supplies has become a major energy-security concern for importing states.
TurkStream: A natural-gas pipeline running from Russia beneath the Black Sea to Turkey and southeastern Europe. It gives Gazprom an export route that bypasses Ukraine.
Urengoy gas field: A giant natural-gas field in the Yamalo-Nenets region of western Siberia. Production from Urengoy helped establish Gazprom’s Siberian supply base.
Viktor Chernomyrdin: A Soviet and Russian energy executive and politician who led the gas industry before becoming prime minister. Chernomyrdin headed the ministry that was reorganized into Gazprom.
Russia–European Union relations: The political, economic, and diplomatic relationship between Russia and the European Union. Gas trade made Gazprom a consequential instrument and subject of bilateral relations.
Power of Siberia: A pipeline that transports natural gas from eastern Siberia to China. It connects Gazprom’s eastern gas fields with the Chinese market.
Yamal Peninsula: A Russian Arctic peninsula containing major natural-gas reserves and production facilities. Gazprom developed Yamal fields to sustain production as older deposits declined.
