Gelug

Gelug is a school of Tibetan Buddhism founded by Tsongkhapa in the early 15th century. It is known for rigorous monastic discipline and systematic study of Buddhist philosophy.

Tibetan Buddhism: A form of Buddhism that developed in Tibet and the Himalayan region, combining Indian Buddhist traditions with local institutions and practices. Gelug is one of Tibetan Buddhism’s major schools.

Panchen Lama: A major tulku lineage in the Gelug school, traditionally linked with Tashilhunpo Monastery. The lineage became one of Gelug’s most influential religious institutions.
Lamrim: A genre of Tibetan Buddhist teachings that presents the stages of the path to enlightenment. Tsongkhapa’s influential presentation of the path became central to Gelug study.
Geshe: A Tibetan Buddhist academic degree awarded after extensive study of Buddhist philosophy and debate. The Gelug curriculum is especially associated with the geshe degree.
