Gender-neutral pronoun

A pronoun that does not specify a referent’s gender or can refer to people of any gender. It may be singular or plural and may be used for people, animals, or things.

Pronoun: A word or phrase that stands in for a noun phrase or identifies a speech participant. Gender neutrality is one possible property of this broader grammatical class.
Singular they: The use of the plural-form pronoun they to refer to one person. It is a common English option when a person’s gender is unknown, irrelevant, or nonbinary.
