Gene Wolfe

Gene Wolfe (1931–2019) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer whose intricate, allusive fiction often turns on unreliable narration. He is best known for the science-fantasy sequence The Book of the New Sun.

The Book of the New Sun: A science-fantasy sequence by Gene Wolfe, narrated by Severian, an exiled torturer in a distant future. This four-volume sequence is Wolfe’s best-known work and his defining literary achievement.
Unreliable narration: A storytelling technique in which a narrator’s account is distorted, incomplete, or deceptive. Wolfe uses it to make a narrator’s omissions as revealing as stated facts.
