Geodynamics studies the forces and physical processes that shape Earth’s interior and drive change in its surface and internal structure over time.

Mantle convection: Heat-driven circulation of solid rock in Earth’s mantle, occurring over geological timescales. It transports internal heat and helps drive the movement of tectonic plates.
Seismic tomography: A method that images variations in Earth’s interior using seismic-wave travel times. It maps structures that constrain models of mantle flow.

Structural geology: The study of rock deformation and the structures produced by geological forces. It examines deformation at scales that complement planetary-scale dynamic models.
Arthur Holmes: A British geologist who developed radiometric dating and proposed mantle convection as a driver of continental movement. His convection hypothesis connected Earth’s interior to drifting continents.
