George I of Great Britain

George I was king of Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 until his death in 1727. The first monarch of the House of Hanover, he succeeded Queen Anne under the Act of Settlement.

Sophia of Hanover: Sophia of Hanover was the granddaughter of James VI and I and the designated Protestant heir to the English and Scottish crowns. George I inherited his claim through his mother, who died shortly before Queen Anne.
