George VI

George VI was King of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms from 1936 to 1952. His reign included the Second World War and the transition of the British Empire toward the Commonwealth.

Edward VIII abdication crisis: The 1936 constitutional crisis that ended with Edward VIII giving up the throne to marry Wallis Simpson. Edward's abdication unexpectedly made his younger brother king.
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon: The wife of George VI, known as Queen Elizabeth and later as the Queen Mother. She supported the king through wartime duties and shared his public role.
