Gerard Reve

Gerard Reve (1923–2006) was a Dutch novelist, poet, and essayist. His spare, ironic prose and religious themes shaped postwar Dutch literature; his best-known novel is The Evenings.

The Evenings: Gerard Reve’s 1947 novel follows ten days in the life of Frits van Egters in postwar Amsterdam. This debut established Reve’s literary reputation through bleak comedy and tightly observed daily life.
