German East Africa

German East Africa was a German colony in East Africa from the 1880s until the First World War. It covered present-day mainland Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Carl Peters: A German colonial campaigner who helped establish German claims in East Africa. His treaties and expeditions helped lay the groundwork for German claims in the region.
Maji Maji Rebellion: A major uprising against German rule in southern German East Africa from 1905 to 1907. Its suppression exposed the violence and limits of colonial control.
