Ghaznavid Empire

A Persianate Muslim empire founded by the Ghaznavid dynasty, centered in Ghazni and ruling parts of Central and South Asia from 977 to 1186.

Ghazni: A city in present-day Afghanistan that served as the Ghaznavid capital and a major center of Persianate culture. The capital anchored the dynasty’s rule and became a celebrated courtly and literary center.
Alp Tigin: A Turkic military commander whose seizure of Ghazni in 962 laid the groundwork for Ghaznavid rule. His establishment at Ghazni created the dynasty’s territorial base.
