Ghazni

Ghazni is a city in eastern Afghanistan that served as the capital of the Ghaznavid Empire and a major center of Persianate culture.

Ghaznavid Empire: A Persianate Muslim dynasty that ruled parts of Central and South Asia from the late tenth to the twelfth century. Ghazni became the dynasty’s capital and principal seat of power.
Minaret of Ghazni: A twelfth-century brick minaret near Ghazni, decorated with intricate geometric and calligraphic patterns. It is one of the city’s most distinctive surviving monuments.
Silk Road: A network of trade routes connecting East Asia with Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Routes through the region helped connect Ghazni to wider commercial and cultural exchanges.

Mahmud of Ghazni: The Ghaznavid ruler who expanded his empire across Iran, Afghanistan, and the northwestern Indian subcontinent. His reign brought Ghazni its greatest imperial prominence.
Ghazni Treasure: A collection of gold and silver objects discovered in 1966 at the palace site in Ghazni. Its objects offer material evidence of elite life in the medieval city.
