Gila River

The Gila River is a major tributary of the Colorado River, flowing through New Mexico and Arizona in the southwestern United States.

Colorado River: A major river of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico that flows into the Gulf of California. The Gila joins the Colorado near Yuma, Arizona.
Akimel O’odham: An Indigenous people of central and southern Arizona, historically known in English as the Pima. Their communities have long lived along and farmed the Gila River.
Central Arizona Project: A major canal system that carries Colorado River water to central and southern Arizona. Its imported water reduces some demands on the Gila basin while reshaping Arizona’s supply.
