Gillo Pontecorvo

Gillo Pontecorvo (1919–2006) was an Italian film director and screenwriter known for politically engaged films, especially The Battle of Algiers and Kapò.

The Battle of Algiers: A 1966 film by Gillo Pontecorvo depicting the Algerian struggle against French colonial rule. Its stark, newsreel-like account became Pontecorvo’s best-known work.
