Knowra Giovanni Belzoni Giovanni Belzoni Giovanni Battista Belzoni (1778–1823) was an Italian explorer and excavator whose removals of Egyptian antiquities helped bring ancient Egypt to European attention.
Tomb of Seti I : A richly decorated royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings, discovered by Giovanni Belzoni in 1817. Its discovery became Belzoni’s most celebrated achievement in the Valley of the Kings.
Padua : A city in northeastern Italy and Giovanni Belzoni’s birthplace. Belzoni was born in Padua in 1778 before pursuing work abroad.
Giovanni Battista Caviglia : An Italian explorer and excavator active in Egypt during the early 19th century. Caviglia and Belzoni worked in the same competitive network of excavation and collection.

Jean-François Champollion : A French scholar who deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphs using the Rosetta Stone and related evidence. The inscriptions on an obelisk associated with Belzoni’s collecting aided Champollion’s work.

Statue of Ramesses II : A colossal granite bust of Ramesses II, removed from the Ramesseum and transported to Britain in 1816. Known in Britain as the Younger Memnon, it became a prominent object in Belzoni’s removal campaign.
