Goguryeo

Goguryeo was an ancient Korean kingdom that flourished from 37 BCE to 668 CE. It was one of Korea’s Three Kingdoms and controlled territories in the northern Korean Peninsula and parts of Manchuria.

Jumong: Jumong is the legendary founder of Goguryeo, traditionally dated to 37 BCE. Goguryeo’s foundation story traces the kingdom’s royal line to this archer-hero.
Goguryeo–Wei War: The Goguryeo–Wei War was a third-century conflict between Goguryeo and the Chinese state of Cao Wei. Wei invasions exposed the kingdom’s vulnerability before its later recovery and expansion.
King Dongmyeong of Goguryeo: King Dongmyeong is the founding monarch in Goguryeo’s origin tradition, identified with Jumong. His legendary kingship established the dynastic identity later rulers invoked.
Baekje: Baekje was one of Korea’s Three Kingdoms, occupying the southwestern Korean Peninsula from the first century BCE to 660 CE. Its rivalry and alliances with Goguryeo shaped competition for control of the peninsula.
Buyeo: Buyeo was an ancient state in Manchuria and northern Korea, associated with Goguryeo’s origins. Goguryeo’s foundation traditions connect Jumong and the early kingdom to Buyeo.
Gwanggaeto the Great: Gwanggaeto the Great was a Goguryeo king who reigned from 391 to 413 and greatly expanded the kingdom. His campaigns brought Goguryeo to the height of its territorial power.
Gwanggaeto Stele: The Gwanggaeto Stele is a monumental inscription erected in 414 to commemorate King Gwanggaeto’s achievements. Its account of campaigns is a major source for Goguryeo’s royal history.
Silla: Silla was one of Korea’s Three Kingdoms and the kingdom that unified much of the peninsula in the seventh century. Silla’s alliance with Tang helped defeat Goguryeo and ended the Three Kingdoms era.
Gojoseon: Gojoseon was an ancient Korean polity traditionally regarded as the earliest Korean kingdom. Its collapse preceded the regional political world in which Goguryeo emerged.
Jangsu of Goguryeo: Jangsu was a Goguryeo king who ruled from 413 to 491 and moved the capital to Pyongyang. His reign consolidated expansion and shifted the kingdom’s political center southward.
