Golden Bull of 1356

A constitutional decree issued by Emperor Charles IV that established seven prince-electors and set rules for electing the Holy Roman Emperor.

Prince-elector: A high-ranking ruler entitled to participate in choosing the Holy Roman Emperor. The decree fixed seven electors and specified their electoral rights.
