Golestan National Park

Golestan National Park is a protected area in northeastern Iran, where Hyrcanian forests, grasslands, and mountains support diverse wildlife.

Hyrcanian forests: Temperate broadleaf and mixed forests along the southern Caspian Sea, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. These ancient forests cover much of the park’s humid northern slopes.
Persian leopard: A large leopard subspecies native to the Caucasus, Iran, and neighboring parts of western Asia. The park is among the habitats where this threatened cat persists.
Golestan Forest: A forested landscape in northeastern Iran that includes areas within Golestan National Park. It represents the park’s wooded habitats and scenic core.
Protected area: A geographically defined place managed for the long-term conservation of nature and associated values. Golestan’s national-park status is one form of protected-area management.

Kopet Dag: A mountain range forming much of the border between northeastern Iran and Turkmenistan. Its western reaches help frame the park’s drier eastern landscapes.
Wildlife conservation: The protection and management of wild species and the habitats on which they depend. Park management must sustain wildlife across forests, grasslands, and other habitats.
