Gondola lift

A cable-transport system in which enclosed cabins carry passengers while suspended from an overhead cable between stations. It can move continuously or in timed groups.

Detachable chairlift: A chairlift whose seats disconnect from the moving haul rope at stations to slow boarding and unloading. Its detachable grip system also lets a circulating cable transport passengers at higher line speed.
Aerial lift: A transport system that carries people or loads in vehicles supported by cables above the ground. This broader category includes gondola lifts and other passenger cableways.
Urban gondola: A gondola lift used as public transport within or between urban areas. Urban systems apply the cabin-and-cable design to routes over streets, rivers, or steep terrain.

Ski resort: A destination that provides facilities for downhill skiing and related winter recreation. Ski resorts use gondola lifts to carry visitors uphill and connect separated terrain.
Chairlift: An aerial lift that transports passengers seated on open chairs attached to a moving cable. Open chairs distinguish it from the enclosed cabins typical of gondola lifts.
Haul rope: A moving cable that pulls vehicles along a ropeway. This moving rope provides the traction that carries cabins along the route.
Cableway support tower: A structure that carries and guides cables along an aerial transport route. Towers support the line and shape the cable path between stations.
