Gordon Moore

Gordon Moore was an American engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded Intel and formulated Moore’s law, the observation that transistor counts on integrated circuits grew rapidly over time.

Robert Noyce: American physicist and entrepreneur who co-invented the integrated circuit and co-founded Intel. Moore co-founded Intel with Noyce after both left Fairchild Semiconductor.

Microprocessor: An integrated circuit that performs the central processing functions of a computer. Increasing transistor density enabled increasingly capable microprocessors.
William Shockley: American physicist who co-invented the transistor and founded Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory. Moore worked at Shockley’s laboratory before joining the group that founded Fairchild Semiconductor.
Transistor: A semiconductor device that controls current and can amplify or switch electronic signals. Transistor counts supplied the measurable quantity at the heart of Moore’s observation.
