Gore Vidal

Gore Vidal (1925–2012) was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, and political commentator known for The City and the Pillar, Lincoln, and his public debates.

The City and the Pillar: Gore Vidal’s 1948 novel follows a man’s lifelong love for another man. Its frank portrayal of male homosexuality became a defining early work in his career.
