Gösta Mittag-Leffler

Gösta Mittag-Leffler (1846–1927) was a Swedish mathematician whose work centered on complex analysis. He founded the journal Acta Mathematica and established the Mittag-Leffler Institute.

Karl Weierstrass: A German mathematician whose work helped establish modern analysis and the theory of functions of complex variables. Mittag-Leffler studied under him in Berlin and carried his analytic tradition into Sweden.
Acta Mathematica: A mathematical research journal founded in 1882 by Gösta Mittag-Leffler. It was his most enduring publishing project, bringing international research to a Swedish journal.

Weierstrass factorization theorem: A theorem expressing entire functions through their zeros as convergent products, with suitable exponential factors. It is a companion construction theorem from the analytic tradition Mittag-Leffler inherited.
University of Berlin: A German university founded in Berlin in 1810, later known as Humboldt University of Berlin. He studied under Weierstrass there, a formative stage in his mathematical training.
