Göta Canal

The Göta Canal is a 19th-century waterway across southern Sweden, linking the Kattegat and Baltic Sea through lakes and connecting rivers. Its route includes 58 locks and crosses the country between Sjötorp and Mem.

Lock (water navigation): A lock is an enclosed chamber that raises or lowers boats between water levels. The canal’s 58 locks lift boats across the elevation changes along its route.
