Grace in Christianity

Grace is God’s freely given favor and assistance, understood in Christian theology as central to salvation and spiritual life.

Salvation in Christianity: In Christianity, salvation is deliverance from sin and death and reconciliation with God. Grace is understood as the source of salvation, not a reward earned by human effort.
Pelagianism: Pelagianism is a theological position that emphasizes human capacity to choose good without inherited sin or necessary divine aid. Its rejection of the necessity of grace became a defining controversy in Western Christianity.
Paul the Apostle: Paul the Apostle was an early Christian missionary and author of letters included in the New Testament. Paul’s letters make grace a central theme in accounts of faith, justification, and salvation.

Semi-Pelagianism: Semi-Pelagianism is a label for views that assign human initiative a role in beginning the movement toward salvation. The label marks a disputed middle position on whether grace precedes every saving response.
Augustine of Hippo: Augustine of Hippo was a Christian theologian and bishop whose writings shaped Western theology. His debates with Pelagius strongly influenced Western doctrines of sin and divine grace.
Irresistible grace: Irresistible grace is the Reformed doctrine that God’s saving call effectively brings the elect to faith. It describes one account of grace acting decisively in conversion.
Eucharist: The Eucharist is a Christian rite commemorating Jesus’s Last Supper through bread and wine. Many traditions understand the Eucharist as a means or encounter of divine grace.
