Grand Teton

Grand Teton is the highest peak in Wyoming’s Teton Range, rising to 13,775 feet (4,199 meters) within Grand Teton National Park.

Teton Range: A mountain range in northwestern Wyoming, forming part of the Rocky Mountains. Grand Teton is the range’s highest summit.
Exum Ridge: A prominent climbing route on the southeast face of Grand Teton. It is a classic route to the summit, first climbed by Glenn Exum in 1931.
Nathaniel P. Langford: An American explorer who took part in the 1872 Hayden Geological Survey of the Yellowstone region. Langford reported a 1872 ascent of Grand Teton that later climbers disputed.
Middle Teton: A prominent summit in Wyoming’s Teton Range, south of Grand Teton. Its neighboring summit forms part of the range’s recognizable central skyline.
Mount Owen: A major peak in the Teton Range, north of Grand Teton and lower in elevation. It is a prominent neighboring summit, but Grand Teton rises higher.
Teton Fault: An active normal fault along the eastern base of the Teton Range. Fault movement helped raise the range above Jackson Hole.
Owen-Spalding Route: A climbing route that follows the upper western side of Grand Teton to its summit. It is a standard technical route and requires exposed scrambling and climbing.
William O. Owen: An American climber associated with the first generally accepted ascent of Grand Teton in 1898. Owen led the party credited with the mountain’s first confirmed ascent.
South Teton: A high peak in the Teton Range, south of Middle Teton and Grand Teton. Together with the two higher Tetons, it defines the range’s central group.
Gannett Peak: The highest mountain in Wyoming, located in the Wind River Range. It exceeds Grand Teton in elevation despite being less visually dominant from Jackson Hole.
