Great Sioux War

The Great Sioux War of 1876–1877 was a conflict between the United States and Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne groups over control of the northern Great Plains, including the Black Hills.

Battle of the Little Bighorn: An 1876 battle in Montana in which Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors defeated the U.S. 7th Cavalry. The war’s best-known battle ended George Armstrong Custer’s command on the Little Bighorn River.
Sitting Bull: A Hunkpapa Lakota leader and spiritual figure who resisted U.S. expansion and helped unite Native forces during the 1876 conflict. His leadership and the vision associated with Little Bighorn became central to the war’s history.
