Great Turkish War

The Great Turkish War was a 1683–1699 conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy League, ending in Ottoman territorial cessions under the Treaty of Karlowitz.

Battle of Vienna: The 1683 battle in which a relief army defeated Ottoman forces besieging Vienna. Its outcome reversed the siege and opened the Holy League’s counteroffensive.
Treaty of Karlowitz: The 1699 peace treaty in which the Ottoman Empire ceded major territories to the Habsburgs, Poland, and Venice. It formally ended the war and recorded the Ottoman territorial losses.
John III Sobieski: King of Poland from 1674 to 1696 and commander of the Polish relief force at Vienna in 1683. His cavalry-led intervention helped defeat the Ottoman army at Vienna.
Ottoman–Habsburg wars: A series of conflicts between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg dynasties over central Europe and southeastern Europe. The Great Turkish War continued a long struggle over Hungary and the Danube frontier.
