Gro Harlem Brundtland

Gro Harlem Brundtland is a Norwegian physician and Labour Party politician who served three terms as prime minister and chaired the World Commission on Environment and Development.

World Commission on Environment and Development: A United Nations commission that developed international proposals linking environmental protection with economic development. Brundtland chaired this commission, which produced the report most closely associated with her global legacy.
Our Common Future: A 1987 United Nations report that defined sustainable development and proposed ways to pursue it. Brundtland chaired the commission that issued this landmark report.
Prime Minister of Norway: The head of Norway’s government, responsible for leading the cabinet and its political program. Brundtland held this office during three separate periods.
