Gualberto Villarroel

Gualberto Villarroel (1908–1946) was a Bolivian military officer who served as president from 1943 until his violent overthrow and death in 1946. His government pursued labor reforms and allied with the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement.

Chaco War: A 1932–1935 war between Bolivia and Paraguay over the Gran Chaco region. Bolivia’s defeat discredited its political order and helped open the way for military reformers.
