Gujarat
Gujarat is a state in western India bordered by the Arabian Sea. Ahmedabad is its largest city, and Gandhinagar is its capital.
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad is Gujarat’s largest city and a major commercial and cultural center in western India. Its textile mills, historic center, and industries have shaped the state’s urban life.
Bombay State: Bombay State was an Indian state that included present-day Gujarat and Maharashtra before their separation in 1960. Gujarat was carved from this bilingual state after a campaign for separate linguistic states.
Mahatma Gandhi: Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian independence leader who developed and practiced nonviolent resistance. He was born in Porbandar and led major campaigns from Gujarat, including the Salt March.
Port of Kandla: The Port of Kandla, now Deendayal Port, is a major seaport on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat. It anchors the state’s role in maritime trade and freight transport.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra is a state in western India, south of Gujarat, with Mumbai as its capital. The two states separated from Bombay State in 1960 along linguistic and political lines.
Gandhinagar: Gandhinagar is the planned capital city of Gujarat, located near Ahmedabad. Its creation as a purpose-built capital followed Gujarat’s formation as a state.
Mahagujarat Movement: The Mahagujarat Movement campaigned for a separate Gujarati-speaking state in the former Bombay State. Its mass protests helped bring about Gujarat’s creation in 1960.
Dada Bhagwan: Dada Bhagwan was the spiritual name of Ambalal Patel, an Indian religious teacher who founded the Akram Vignan movement. His teachings originated in Gujarat and drew a large following there.
Mundra Port: Mundra Port is a major commercial port on Gujarat’s Gulf of Kutch coast. Its large cargo operations illustrate the growth of private port infrastructure in the state.
Rajasthan: Rajasthan is a state in northwestern India, northeast of Gujarat, known for its desert landscapes and historic kingdoms. Their shared border joins Gujarat’s coastal regions to Rajasthan’s inland northwest.
