Gulangyu

Gulangyu is a small island off Xiamen, China, known for its historic architecture and former international settlement. Its cultural landscape reflects Chinese, colonial-era, and overseas Chinese influences.

Treaty of Nanking: The 1842 treaty that ended the First Opium War and opened five Chinese ports to British trade. Its opening of Xiamen to foreign trade preceded Gulangyu’s international settlement.
