Eiffel Tower : A wrought-iron tower in Paris, completed in 1889 for the Exposition Universelle. Eiffel’s firm designed and built this tower, which became his defining work.
Garabit Viaduct : A railway arch bridge over the Truyère River in France, completed in 1884. Eiffel’s firm built this high iron viaduct, demonstrating its expertise before the tower.
École Centrale Paris : A French engineering school in Paris, founded in 1829. Eiffel graduated from this school in 1855, trained in chemistry before entering engineering.
Panama Canal scandal : A French financial and political scandal arising from the failed Panama Canal company in the late nineteenth century. Eiffel was convicted in connection with canal lock contracts, then acquitted on appeal.
