Hal Needham

Hal Needham (1931–2013) was an American stunt performer, stunt coordinator, and film director known for action comedies including Smokey and the Bandit.

Burt Reynolds: Burt Reynolds was an American actor and filmmaker whose screen roles included action comedies and dramas. Reynolds starred in several Needham films and became his close creative partner.
Smokey and the Bandit: Smokey and the Bandit is a 1977 action-comedy film about bootlegging beer across state lines. This hit established Needham’s signature mix of car chases, comedy, and Burt Reynolds.
Stunt performer: A stunt performer physically executes dangerous or demanding actions for film, television, or live performance. Needham began in this role before moving into coordination and directing.

Paul Williams: Paul Williams is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. Williams wrote the song “The Rainbow Connection” for Needham’s film The Muppet Movie.
The Cannonball Run: The Cannonball Run is a 1981 comedy about an illegal cross-country automobile race. Needham directed this ensemble road comedy built around vehicles and comic set pieces.
