Hal Roach

Hal Roach was an American film producer and studio founder whose company made influential silent and sound comedies, including films starring Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang.

Laurel and Hardy: A comedy duo whose films and shorts made them international stars. Their screen partnership became the studio’s most enduring feature-comedy act.
Silent film: Motion pictures made before synchronized recorded dialogue became standard. Roach built his studio during the silent era, when visual action carried comedy.
