Halford Mackinder

Halford Mackinder was a British geographer and politician who developed the Heartland theory of geopolitics and helped establish geography as an academic discipline in Britain.

Heartland theory: A geopolitical theory that identifies control of Eurasia’s interior as a potential basis for global power. This is Mackinder’s best-known claim about the strategic importance of Eurasia.
