Hallway

A hallway is an interior passage in a building that connects rooms or provides access to different areas. It may also serve as circulation space, storage, or a place for encounters.

Corridor: A long passage connecting parts of a building or other structure. Corridor is the architectural term often used for a hallway, especially in institutional buildings.
Fire escape: A route or structure intended to help occupants leave a building during a fire or other emergency. Hallways can form part of an evacuation route, but must remain passable and meet applicable safety rules.
Gallery (architecture): A long room or passage, often used to display artworks or connect building spaces. A gallery may resemble a hallway but is often designed for display or gathering.
Liminality: The condition of being between established states, places, or stages. As transitional spaces, hallways often evoke the feeling of being between destinations.

Atrium (architecture): A large open interior space that rises through multiple levels of a building. An atrium is a broad shared void, unlike the narrow passage typically meant by hallway.

Floor plan: A scaled drawing showing the arrangement of rooms and other spaces on a floor. Floor plans show how a hallway links rooms and directs movement.
Wayfinding: The process of determining and following a route through an environment. Signs, landmarks, and layout help people find destinations along long or unfamiliar hallways.
