Han Shizhong

Han Shizhong was a Southern Song military commander who fought the Jurchen-led Jin dynasty. He is remembered for defending the Song and for his wife Liang Hongyu’s role in military campaigns.

Battle of Huangtiandang: A 1130 engagement in which Song forces harried Jin troops near modern Nanjing. Han and Liang Hongyu are traditionally credited with helping trap Jin forces in the campaign.
Liang Hongyu: A Song-era military figure remembered for supporting campaigns against the Jin alongside Han Shizhong. Accounts associate her with signaling and directing troops during the Huangtiandang campaign.
Northern Song dynasty: The Chinese dynasty that ruled much of China from 960 until its conquest by the Jin in 1127. Han's early career began before the Northern Song collapsed and its court fled south.
Yue Fei's execution: The 1142 execution of the Song general Yue Fei on charges widely regarded as unjust. Han reportedly challenged the decision, illustrating the personal cost of court policy.
Battle of Yancheng: A 1140 battle in which Yue Fei's forces defeated Jin troops near Yancheng. It belongs to the same phase of Song resistance in which Han commanded against Jin.
Yue Fei: A Southern Song general celebrated for campaigns against the Jin dynasty. Yue was Han's fellow commander and a prominent advocate of continued resistance.
Jingkang Incident: The 1127 capture of the Northern Song capitals and emperors by the Jin dynasty. The crisis transformed Han's service into a central part of the Southern Song's military resistance.
Chinese military history: The study of warfare, armed forces, and military institutions across China's history. Han's campaigns are part of the record of Song-era conflict and defense.
Battle of Caishi: A 1161 naval battle in which Song forces defeated a Jin invasion fleet on the Yangtze River. It offers a later example of Southern Song defense against Jin crossing attempts.
Qin Hui: A Song chancellor associated with negotiations and the execution of Yue Fei. Han's opposition to surrender policies placed him on the other side of court factional struggles.
