Hanseatic League

The Hanseatic League was a commercial and defensive association of north German towns and merchant communities that dominated trade around the Baltic and North Seas during the Middle Ages.

Hanseatic Kontor: A Hanseatic trading post abroad where merchants maintained warehouses, negotiated privileges, and organized commerce. Kontore anchored the League’s trade in major foreign markets.
Wendish cities: A group of north German towns, including Lübeck and Wismar, associated with the Wendish Hanseatic regional grouping. Their cooperation helped establish the League’s early urban core.
Bryggen: The historic Hanseatic wharf and trading district in Bergen, Norway. It was the League’s principal base for trading with Norway.
