Harald Fairhair

Harald Fairhair is a Norwegian king traditionally credited with uniting much of Norway in the late ninth century. The extent and historicity of this unification remain debated.

Heimskringla: A collection of sagas about Norwegian kings, written by the Icelandic author Snorri Sturluson in the thirteenth century. Snorri’s account is the fullest surviving narrative of Harald’s life and unification.
Norway in the Viking Age: The Scandinavian region of Norway during the Viking Age, roughly the late eighth through eleventh centuries. Harald’s rise belongs to a period of competing regional rulers and expanding maritime power.
