Harry Vardon

Harry Vardon (1870–1937) was an English professional golfer who won the Open Championship six times and popularized the overlapping grip now bearing his name.

James Braid: James Braid (1870–1950) was a Scottish professional golfer who won five Open Championships and designed golf courses. Braid was Vardon’s contemporary and one of the three golfers later known as the Great Triumvirate.
1896 Open Championship: The 1896 Open Championship was a golf tournament at Muirfield won by Harry Vardon. Vardon’s first Open title began a run of six victories in the championship.
Vardon grip: The Vardon grip is a golf grip in which the little finger of the trailing hand overlaps the index finger of the lead hand. Vardon popularized this grip, which became the standard choice for many golfers.
Great Triumvirate: The Great Triumvirate was the group of British golfers Harry Vardon, James Braid, and J. H. Taylor. The trio dominated the Open Championship in the early twentieth century.
J. H. Taylor: John Henry Taylor (1871–1963) was an English professional golfer who won five Open Championships. Taylor joined Vardon and Braid in the dominant triumvirate of British golf around the turn of the twentieth century.
1900 U.S. Open: The 1900 U.S. Open was a golf tournament at the Chicago Golf Club won by Harry Vardon. Vardon’s victory made him the first British golfer to win the U.S. Open.
Golf grip: A golf grip is the way a golfer’s hands hold the club handle. The Vardon grip is one established arrangement of the hands on the club.

Ted Ray: Edward ‘Ted’ Ray (1877–1943) was an English professional golfer who won the Open Championship and the U.S. Open. Ray defeated Vardon in the 1912 Open and later partnered him in the 1927 Ryder Cup.
1911 Open Championship: The 1911 Open Championship was a golf tournament at Royal St George’s won by Harry Vardon. Vardon’s sixth and final Open title came at age 41.
