Hawaiian Kingdom

The Hawaiian Kingdom was a sovereign Polynesian state unified under Kamehameha I in 1810. It was overthrown in 1893 and annexed by the United States in 1898.

Kamehameha I: The Hawaiian monarch who unified the islands and founded the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. His conquest and diplomacy established the kingdom in 1810.
Liliʻuokalani: The last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, deposed in 1893. Her reign ended in the overthrow and included efforts to restore royal authority.
Bayonet Constitution: The name commonly given to Hawaiʻi’s 1887 constitution, imposed on King Kalākaua under threat of force. It sharply reduced the monarch’s authority before the 1893 crisis.

Hawaiian Organic Act: The 1900 U.S. law that established a territorial government for the newly annexed Hawaiian Islands. It converted annexation into a U.S. territorial administration.
Kingdom of Fiji: A short-lived Polynesian monarchy established by Cakobau in 1871 and ceded to Britain in 1874. Its rapid cession contrasts with Hawaiʻi’s decades of recognized independence.
