Heberden's node

A hard bony enlargement at a finger’s distal interphalangeal joint, usually associated with osteoarthritis. It reflects changes in the joint margins and surrounding bone.

Distal interphalangeal joint: The finger joint between the middle and terminal phalanges. Heberden's nodes develop at this joint, where osteoarthritis alters cartilage and bone.
Bouchard's node: A bony enlargement at a finger’s proximal interphalangeal joint, often associated with osteoarthritis. Its location at the middle finger joint contrasts with Heberden's nodes at the fingertip joint.
William Heberden: An English physician of the eighteenth century known for clinical observations and medical writings. He described the distinctive finger-joint swellings that later took his name.
