Hectare

A hectare is a metric unit of area equal to 10,000 square metres, or 100 ares. It is the area of a square 100 metres on each side.

Square metre: The SI unit of area, equal to the area of a square with one-metre sides. The hectare is defined as exactly 10,000 square metres.
Land surveying: The measurement and mapping of land boundaries, positions, and terrain. Surveyors use hectares to report the area of parcels and tracts.
