Heilongjiang
Heilongjiang is a province in northeastern China, bordering Russia and named for the Heilong River. Its capital is Harbin.
Harbin: Harbin is the capital and largest city of Heilongjiang in northeastern China. The provincial capital anchors Heilongjiang’s government, transport, and cultural life.
Manchuria: Manchuria is a historical region of northeastern Asia encompassing northeastern China and adjacent areas. Heilongjiang occupies the northern part of the region historically known as Manchuria.
Sanjiang Plain: The Sanjiang Plain is a lowland in northeastern Heilongjiang formed by the Heilong, Songhua, and Ussuri river systems. Its fertile soils make it one of the province’s major grain-producing areas.
Jilin: Jilin is a landlocked province in northeastern China, south of Heilongjiang. It shares regional ties with Heilongjiang but lies farther south.
Heilong River: The Heilong River, called the Amur in Russia, forms much of the boundary between northeastern China and Russia. The river gives the province its name and marks much of its northern border.
Qing dynasty: The Qing dynasty was China’s last imperial dynasty, ruling from 1644 to 1912 and founded by the Manchus. Qing rule established the imperial frontier administration that preceded the modern province.
Beidahuang: Beidahuang is a state-owned agricultural enterprise and reclaimed farming region in Heilongjiang. Its large farms exemplify the province’s transformation into a major grain producer.
Liaoning: Liaoning is a coastal province in northeastern China, south of Jilin and Heilongjiang. Its seaports contrast with Heilongjiang’s inland, border-oriented geography.
Songhua River: The Songhua is a major river in northeastern China and a tributary of the Heilong River. Its basin crosses Heilongjiang and supports major cities, agriculture, and transport.
Chuang Guandong: Chuang Guandong was the migration of people, especially from northern China, into Manchuria from the late Qing period onward. This migration transformed Heilongjiang’s population and agricultural landscape.
