Hélio Gracie

Hélio Gracie (1913–2009) was a Brazilian martial artist and member of the Gracie family who helped develop Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, emphasizing leverage and technique.

Carlos Gracie: A Brazilian martial artist who helped establish Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and founded the first Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro. Hélio’s older brother introduced him to the family’s judo and jiu-jitsu practice and helped establish their school.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu: A grappling martial art focused on controlling and submitting an opponent, especially on the ground. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a family-associated development within this broader martial art.
