Hell in Christianity

Hell is the state or place of final punishment and separation from God in Christian belief. Christian traditions differ over its nature, duration, and relation to human freedom.

Divine justice: The theological claim that God judges creatures rightly and consistently with divine goodness. Hell raises the question of how eternal punishment can accord with God's justice.
Eternal conscious torment: The doctrine that the damned remain conscious and endure punishment without end. It is the classic account of hell in many Christian traditions.
Gehenna: A term used in the New Testament for a place or state of divine judgment. Jesus' warnings about Gehenna became central evidence in Christian teaching on hell.
