Hendrik Casimir

Hendrik Casimir (1909–2000) was a Dutch theoretical physicist who predicted the force between conducting plates in 1948 and later helped lead Philips Research.

Niels Bohr: A Danish physicist who founded the Copenhagen school of quantum theory and contributed to atomic physics. Casimir worked at Bohr’s institute in Copenhagen before joining Philips.
Casimir effect: The force between nearby uncharged conducting surfaces arising from changes in quantum-field fluctuations. Casimir predicted this effect for ideal parallel conducting plates.
Theo Overbeek: A Dutch physical chemist known for foundational work on colloid science and interaction forces in suspensions. Overbeek discussed the van der Waals force problem with Casimir that prompted the 1948 calculation.
