Herakleopolis Magna

Herakleopolis Magna was an ancient Egyptian city in Middle Egypt, known in Egyptian as Henen-nesut. It served as the political center of the Herakleopolitan dynasties and was a major center of worship of the ram-headed god Heryshaf.

Henen-nesut: The ancient Egyptian name of Herakleopolis Magna, meaning approximately “House of the Royal Child.” This was the city’s Egyptian name before its Greek and Roman forms became standard.
Heryshaf: An ancient Egyptian ram-headed god associated with fertility and kingship, especially worshipped at Herakleopolis. His cult made the city a major religious center as well as a political capital.
Battle of Herakleopolis: A conflict associated with the struggle between Herakleopolitan and Theban rulers during Egypt’s First Intermediate Period. The battle represents the military contest over the city and the reunification of Egypt.
