Herbert A. Simon

Herbert A. Simon (1916–2001) was an American scholar whose work reshaped decision theory, organizational studies, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science. He received the 1978 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

Allen Newell: An American computer scientist and cognitive psychologist who helped establish artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Newell collaborated with Simon on landmark programs that modeled human problem-solving.
Bounded rationality: A model of decision-making in which limited information, time, and cognitive capacity constrain rational choice. Simon made these limits central to his account of how people and organizations decide.
General Problem Solver: A 1957 computer program by Allen Newell, Herbert A. Simon, and J. C. Shaw that used means–ends analysis to solve problems. The program made Simon’s theories of human problem-solving computationally explicit.
