Herbert Marcuse

Herbert Marcuse (1898–1979) was a German-American philosopher and social theorist associated with the Frankfurt School. He criticized how advanced industrial societies integrate opposition and shape human needs.

Frankfurt School: A group of German thinkers who developed critical theory to analyze capitalism, culture, and modern society. Marcuse’s intellectual home shaped his account of domination and emancipation.
One-Dimensional Man: Herbert Marcuse’s 1964 book arguing that advanced industrial society suppresses critical thought and political opposition. It gives Marcuse’s most sustained account of social integration and diminished dissent.
